The Theme of the Conference was "Guardians of the Hearth" which is same as the Visiting Teaching Message for February! ( http://www.lds.org/liahona/2012/02/guardians-of-the-hearth?lang=eng )
I didn't even know what a "hearth" was! SO i apparently had a lot to learn.
Here is a few highlights that i learned:
1. I need to focus on how i can strengthen my family.
- Believe it or not, but there are a gabillion different ways to improve your family. I found wonderful idea's in Doctrine and Covenants 88: 119 - 126. I focused more on verse 119. I cleaned up the house! it was disorganized and driving me crazy! it needed to be more simple and easy to keep clean. so with 4 hours of work, i was 100% satisfied with my little "family strengthening project".
2. Even though i am not a mother YET, I still need to be the BEST MOTHER that i can be to those children that i am around.
3. This is a big calling, to be a mother and protecting our family, but i can fulfill it by "follow[ing] the doctrines of Christ and rely on Him to help [me]." - Sister Thompson. I found my idea on how to strengthen my family in the scriptures!
4. RELAX! You are Better then what you think you are! That was the message that Elder Baxter bore. It was relieving to hear and it rejuvenated my heart. i think we are our worst judge.
5. Another message from elder Baxter was to be Patient with yourself.
- I have learned that patience is key when I work in the temple. If i am frustrated that i am forgetting words, then it makes it even harder for me to learn. But i know that as i trust in the Lord and do my very best, i will become better, and more confident in myself.
AND... my FAVORITE!
6. I learned how FUN blogging can be!
- Vanessa really emphasized on the importance of setting yourself up for success by setting easy simple goals so that you do not get discouraged or overwhelmed. My goal is to try and put up at least a blog a month and the most a blog a week.
-I will mostly do it on fun things that Winston and I do so that it will be a record for our future kids.
- I also want to try and add my testimony to my blogs. "sometimes a single phrase of testimony can set events in motion that affect someone's life for eternity." - Elder Uchtdorf
SO I commit YOU to try ONE little way to strengthen YOUR family, If you need some advice on what to do, comment below or look in the scriptures i mentioned before. My little act of cleaning and organizing really has made a huge impact on the way our house feels. I am A TON happier, and so is Winston.
-"I thought for a moment that it really didn’t pertain too much to me since I wasn’t married and didn’t have any children. But almost as quickly I thought, ‘But it does pertain to me. I am a member of a family. I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a niece, and a granddaughter. I do have responsibilities—and blessings—because I am a member of a family. Even if I were the only living member of my family, I am still a member of God’s family, and I have a responsibility to help strengthen other families.’” - Sister Thompson
- Laura
